Ho to get to the Märchenhotel?
Our hotel is located in the small, quiet village Braunwald in the canton of Glarus above a valley and is car-free. The hotel can only be reached by funicular railway, which runs during the day (5h25-23h55), there is no road to Braunwald. The journey time with the funicular railway is very short, only 6 minutes. If we know which funicular railway you are travelling with, we will pick you up at the mountain station with our electric car.
How do I get from Zurich Airport to Braunwald with public transport?
There are direct trains every hour from Zurich main station to Linthal Braunwaldbahn station, where the valley station of the funicular is located. The funicular will take you to Braunwald in 6 minutes. Please register with the staff at the valley station. They will be happy to help you with your luggage and let us know when you arrive at the top. We will pick you up at the top station with our electric shuttle bus.

Where can I park my car?
Next to the funicular station is large public parking lot, with different parking levels (P1-P3), you can park for CHF 3 per day (first day CHF 5).
What is the closest airport?
The nearest international airport is Zurich Airport (ZRH)
Are there parking spaces for electric cars?
There are 6 charging stations for electric cars. Covered parking spaces can be reserved. This costs CHF 10 per day.
Is Braunwald really car-free?
Yes. Cars stay in the valley. The Märchenhotel is located on a mountain. There is no other way to get up there except by funicular (Braunwaldbahn).
When does the Braunwaldbahn run?
It runs every half hour.
How much is a Taxi oder Uber?
A large taxi costs between CHF 300 and CHF 500 from Zurich airport to the valley station of the Braunwald funicular. Make sure you book the trip in advance. Children's car seats are available on request.

Is it a problem that my children don't speak German for the kid’s club?
We’re happy to welcome guests from all around the world, and many of our team members speak English and are always here to help. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that some activities, such as our daily children‘s storytelling and guides tours with the animals are in German.
I am allergic to certain foods - can I get the appropriate dishes?
Our kitchen offers a variety of alternatives, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free options. If you let us know before you arrive, we will be happy to prepare the dishes for you.
Is my pet welcome?
Dogs are allowed. Please be sure to mention this when making your reservation. We charge CHF 25 per night. Your dog is allowed to accompany you everywhere except in the dining room, the indoor pool, the wellness area, and floor 0 in the children's area. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times throughout the hotel and on our playgrounds. Owners are liable for any damage caused by their dogs. No other pets, such as cats, birds, or reptiles, are allowed in the Märchenhotel.
Equipment / Local transportation
Can strollers, wheelchairs, and bikes be transported on the funicular?
Yes, the funicular railway and gondola lift are accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. Bikes are transported free of charge.
Is there a store nearby where we can rent ski equipment?
Right next to the Braunwaldbahn station is the Tödisport shop with ski and snowboard rental.
Activities & Climate
How is the climate and activities in Braunwald all year round?
Spring: In spring, Braunwald awakens from its winter slumber. The mountains are still covered in snow, while the meadows begin to bloom. Fresh green hues spread across the landscape, and the first flowers like crocuses and daffodils push their way up. Hiking trails become accessible again, and there are often cool, but sunny days.
Summer: Summer in Braunwald is a time of lush greenery. The alpine meadows are covered in colorful flowers, and the temperatures are pleasant, but not too hot, making the region a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers. The view of the surrounding peaks and the Glarnerland is breathtaking. In summer, there are plenty of activities like hiking, climbing, or simply relaxing in nature.
Autumn: Autumn brings a golden season to Braunwald. The forests turn warm colors—from golden yellow to red—and the clear mountain air makes the colors even more vivid. It’s a quiet time, ideal for enjoying nature in its full colorful splendor. Temperatures gradually drop, but there are still many beautiful hikes or trips to the surrounding hills and peaks.
Winter: Winter in Braunwald is a true winter wonderland. Snow blankets the landscape,
transforming the town into a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. The ski resort is great for families, but cross-country skiers and snowshoe hikers also find plenty to enjoy here. The fresh mountain air and snow-covered forests bring a special sense of tranquility to winter.
Are ski lessons for (small) children also offered in Braunwald, if so do you have to register in advance?
Braunwald has its own ski school for children, which is about 10 minutes away from our hotel. You are also welcome to use the hotel's own shuttle service. Please register your children directly with the ski school.

What happens in a medical emergency? Where is the nearest pharmacy and doctor?
The nearest pharmacy is in Schwanden, 20-30 minutes by car from the valley station of the Braunwald furnicular.
The nearest doctor (Monday to Friday) is in Linthal at 5 minutes' walk from the valley station of the Braunwald furnicular.
In case of emergency, the nearest hospital is in Glarus. Transportation is by ambulance from Linthal (valley station furnicular) or by Rega (Swiss Air Rescue).
