Read here what the press wrote about us!
"Being hosts is what we love best about our job". We know what holidays mean for you: a major investment, not just in terms of money but also of time, anticipation and expectations. The atmosphere in our hotel is leisurely, making for happy, relaxed holidays. And you can rest assured that, as dedicated hosts, we will do our best to make you feel totally at home with us. In the "Bellevue Fairy-Tale Hotel", junior guests are a major focus of attention, enabling their parents to enjoy their holidays too, without a worry in the world.
Many years ago, we had the opportunity to buy a big old hotel where we kept what was good and traditional while renovating many rooms to modern standards. This opportunity was a dream come true for my wife and me, though it wasn't a magic wish granted by the good fairy! For us and our staff, willingness to serve others is part of our philosophy of life. In the "Bellevue", the smiles come from the heart. We both trained at a hotel management school, but it was the school of life which taught us the importance of being good hosts. In fact, surprising our guests with daily pleasures is the best thing about our profession. Thirty years ago, I never would have guessed that my love of children and improvising stories would lead to my present role as a Story-Telling Uncle, but now I wouldn't miss my daily story hour for anything in the world.
Princes and counts used to dine where fairy tales are now told
The "Bellevue" lives up to its name with its fabulous, magical panoramas. In 1976, Lydia and Martin Vogel woke what was once a luxury hotel from its long period of inactivity. The Grand Hôtel, as the "Bellevue" used to be known, opened in 1907 and housed the crowned heads of Eastern Europe and the cream of society who came to Braunwald, with its population of 400, to escape the summer heat. However, the First World War put a sudden end to this glorious era. From 1918 till 1976 it was a sports-hotel, hosting guests mainly from Switzerland, Germany and France.
Knowing what guests want
All that is now left of the Art Nouveau details and this aristocratic splendour are the wrought-iron balcony railings and the spacious dining room. Demolition was on the cards until the present owners, with their enthusiasm and sensitivity to what guests really want, rescued it from its Cinderella-like existence in 1976. Now, the tastefully furnished rooms offer every comfort. The hotel stands in splendid, slightly elevated isolation, overlooking the car-free village of Braunwald. Its balconies provide a marvellous view of the surrounding mountains, giving the impression that you can reach out and touch the three-thousand-meter peaks. And Bellevue sunrises are truly magical experiences.
Fairy-Tale Hotel guests of all ages find their heart's desire
The funny rabbit at the hotel entrance stops nibbling at its carrot to curiously eye the new arrivals. So now the children know that they've really arrived at the Fairy-Tale Hotel. While parents go to their rooms and settle in, the children are already playing or exploring their surroundings. Family holidays and at the same time, holidays away from the family? The Vogels have balanced this equation neatly and imaginatively, creating a children's world where TV just can't compete with a Story-Telling Uncle and an adult's paradise where parents can relax and dine by candlelight.

Slide instead of stairs
In the mid-Seventies, Lydia and Martin Vogel changed the whole Braunwald resort, form a senior to a popular family holiday destination in summer also, by building their highly individual hotel concept round the needs of junior guests. All day and every day until 9 pm, they are cared for by a trained nursery nurse. Facilities include a playroom on two levels, complete with tables for making things on, a "cuddly corner" plus climbing bars, while for older children there is a room with X-BOX360 computers and an indoor pool with water-wings, a slide and a Tarzan obstacle course. The children eat dinner together in their own dining-room which serves the food kids like. And then they're off down the slide to the floor below where the Story-Telling Uncle keeps them enthralled with his exciting tales of dwarfs, beautiful princesses and white elephants before they work off their last ounce of excess energy on the huge bouncy castle and collapse into bed. Next morning, they can go skiing or hunt for Bartli the Dwarf, his cave and the gigantic jewel. Or simply watch the antics of the miniature goats on the "Golden Goat Bridge". Or take the plunge in the indoor swimming-pool that's open round the clock. The hotel's wellness area also includes a whirlpool, sauna and solarium as well as a massaging waterbed. In 2001 we built the wellness on the top a spa in a glass-dome, where you can book a massage or just relax in peace.

Gourmet pleasures for parents

At the "Bellevue", all this goes by the name of gourmet half board. We have a very interesting and well-balanced wine menu, ranging from five good wines at less than twenty Swiss francs a bottle to aristocratic tipples
A magic approach to Paradise
There's only one way to get to Braunwald - through the mountain railway. And once you're there, you've reached a safe, green haven - rather like paradise - with no uninvited guests and no locked doors, where you can let your children play and roam to their hearts' content without having to worry about them.Braunwald is car-free but getting there isn't a problem. Guests can drive as far as the valley terminus of the Braunwald Railway in Linthal and take the railway up to Braunwald. Luggage can be handed in at Linthal, and guests travelling with Swiss Railways can send it straight through to Braunwald. At peak traffic times, the Braunwald Railway operates on an on-demand basis. Normally, the Braunwald Railway runs every half hour. Just call the "Bellevue" from the toll-free phone at the valley terminus, and 6 minutes later and 600 metres higher, the electric taxi will be there to collect you and your luggage. Let us show you the high life - at 1300 metres above sea-level!
